I bought a wood lathe, mostly to learn and screw around with, but also to make things. I bought a few additional things with it. :)
the chuck is a 4 jaw Nova G3; I also have a set of pen jaws for it, but for learning, this will definitely work.
Making (a mess) shavings! I finally got the chance to actually try it out. The wood in there started as a (badly sawn) 1.5" square chunk of oak. Most of the shaping was done with a gouge, although I did try out the parting took. I think I need to sharpen the tools, they might not have been sharpened from the factory.
I had also bought a pen turning kit, and this was some poplar stock from the local box box home improvement store. I screwed up on the right hand piece in a couple ways: I didnt get the tube glued in securly, and I didnt get the blank trimmed right, so this set is largely scrap. :(
